Connecticut State Information

Connecticut is bordered on the north by Massachusetts; on the south by Long Island Sound; on the east by Massachusetts and Rhode Island; and, New York on the west. Connecticut is the architect of the landmark document, The Fundamental Orders of 1638-1639, which comprised the first written constitution in history. It is of opinion that many of the features of the Federal Constitution were drawn from this document. As tribute, the General Assembly designated Connecticut 'The Constitution State' in 1959. During the Revolutionary War, Connecticut provided most of the food and canons to the forces, thus, fittingly it is sometimes referred to as 'The Provisions State.'

The citizens of Connecticut, called Connecticuters - while others prefer to call them Connecticotians or Connecticutensians – are known to abide by strict morals. For this reason, Connecticut earned another nickname in 'The Land of Steady Habits'.

The country's first commercial telephone devices were products of Connecticut. And then, in Connecticut, America saw its first cigars, man-made combs, factory-made hats, plows and friction matches. Modern industrial productivity is chiefly turned out by the manufacturing methods developed by Eli Terry and Eli Whitney, and with the production of helicopters, jet aircraft engines, submarines and small firearms.

Connecticut is also dubbed as 'The Nutmeg State' in reference to the popular and favorite spice of Connecticuters. Selling nutmeg is an old trade in the state and citizens of old earned the monikers Nutmegs or Nutmeggers.
